My name is Angela Mathis. I am an art educator/artist at William Hall Academy, a Pre-K through 8th grade school located in Capitol Heights, Maryland. I am the Middle School Art teacher, but I also have the opportunity to work with some of the elementary classes integrating art projects across the curriculum. In 6th and 7th grade art, my students learn about the elements of art and explore different art media, materials and techniques. Art projects include opportunities for painting, drawing, sculpture, printmaking, collage and more.
My 3 Goals for Participating in the Sharing Technology with Educators Program (STEP) are to...
Improve my art teaching by learning new authentic, effective and sustainable ways to incorporate technology into my art teaching methods beyond the "bells, whistles and novelties" of most websites and intereactive whiteboards.
Increase student motivation for learning, document the studio artmaking process and present student artwork by learning to use Podcasting technology and tools to create digital stories. I believe motivation and understanding is greatly enhanced when students can bring together photos and video, combine it with artwork and graphics and then write and add their own voiceover narration and music.
